The Roosevelt hotel

The Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel lit up for PRIDE 2024 - POV Ovation Hollywood level P4 near Kobe mural.

My favorite hotel is The Roosevelt in Hollywood, CA. It’s been a favorite for years. Even though I’ve only stayed there twice in my lifetime. Years ago pre-remodel we stayed for our little sisters bachelorette weekend and again for my daughter’s graduation celebration post pandemic. However, I’ve been to the lobby hundreds of times.

Including last Saturday night with Roni (my twin and Frolicking Chronicles partner) after watching our friend perform his The Fringe comedy act. Lucky us it happens to be PRIDE month and Hollywood is a magical place with rainbows everywhere you look.

Roni and I were just looking for a place to have a night cap and catch up a bit. Anthony, let us know lobby bar was serving. PERFECTION! We decided on trying 2 of their cocktails and a glass of water. The hotel lobby was empty but had just hosted a wedding. The wedding reception was going off inside the HAUNTED BALLROOM. I ordered their Roosevelt-75 and it was glorious, w/white rum, lo-fi gentian amaro, lime, hibiscus, prosecco. Roni chose their Hollywood Spritzer w/st. germaine, fortified wine, lemongrass, orange bitter, mint, grapefruit. We preferred the Roosevelt-75.

The Hollywood Roosevelt is located on the corner of Hollywood Blvd and Orange. In fact as you exit on to Hollywood Blvd you can see The Magic Castle at the top of Orange St. If you look above The Magic Castle you will see Yamarshiro.

The Roosevelt was built in 1926 and hosted the first Academy Awards ceremony “The Oscars” in 1929. Famous celebrities frequented the hotel including *Hollywood elite including Marilyn Monore (who stayed here for over two years), Clark Gable, Ernest Hemmingway, Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt, Charlie Chaplin and Shirley Temple.

We’ve stood at the mirror on the stairs platform to spot Marilyn to no avail and stood outside Room 928 in hopes of spying some activity. We have yet to have a ghostly experience ourselves. I want to shout out to our friend Bobby who let us explore the hotel ballroom before checking out. You can check out our Frolicking Chronicles podcast for more, but there is a YouTube clip mentioned of a paranormal experience documented on film.
